Every journey of research begins with a question. For me, one such question emerged from a conversation that changed the way I looked at health and disease.
Several years ago, I had the opportunity to meet an elderly Naadi Vaidya, Shri Trilok Chand Ji, in Faridabad, who had decades of experience in the traditional practice of Naadi Parikshan.
During our first meeting, I spoke to him about a medicine I had been working on for fever and shared my observations about its results. After listening to me carefully, he suddenly asked:
I answered from a general perspective, explaining that fever is commonly associated with viral or bacterial infections and is accompanied by an increase in body temperature.
The old Vaidya immediately corrected me and said:
“You cannot simply say that it is just a viral or bacterial issue. In Ayurveda, every ailment must be understood in terms of Vata, Pitta and Kapha, regardless of how chronic the disease may have become.”
He further explained his traditional understanding that when Doshas remain disturbed for a prolonged period and become involved with the body’s tissues (Dhatus), they may contribute to chronic and complex health conditions. During our conversation, he also related this Ayurvedic perspective to serious conditions such as cancer. I understood this as a traditional Ayurvedic interpretation, rather than a substitute for modern medical diagnosis or scientific evidence.
That simple conversation became an important turning point in my journey.
He appreciated my understanding of the human body and my approach to Naadi Parikshan. More importantly, he encouraged me to look beyond symptoms and develop a deeper understanding of the principles behind health and disease.
His guidance helped me appreciate that Naadi Parikshan should not be viewed in isolation, but understood in connection with the broader principles of Ayurveda and the way the body functions.
From that day onward, I began studying health and disease through concepts such as Dosha, Agni, Ama, Dhatu and Srotas. I started documenting my observations, studying traditional references, refining my understanding of formulations and asking deeper questions about the relationship between Prakriti, lifestyle, health and disease.
This journey gradually changed my approach—from simply observing health conditions to documenting, studying and seeking a deeper understanding of them through Ayurvedic principles.
Today, this spirit of enquiry forms an important part of the vision of ATH DEEKSHA Ayurved Evam Yog Kendra. Our endeavour is to respect the knowledge received through the Guru–Shishya Parampara, learn from experience, document observations systematically, encourage responsible research, and explore how traditional Ayurvedic knowledge can be understood and carried forward for future generations.
From Experience to Documentation.
